Amelia House “Crying Queen”
5”x3”x10.75”,” Plaster, Acrylic Paint, Beads, Feathers, Ribbon, Tinsel, 2018
My idea for my mask was from several things. At first, I was going to do porcelain looking mask, but then I changed it to a crying mask. Once I started painting, I realized that I was going to use silver to add a glow and shine. When I added the crown on top, I decided instead of using the bracelet and leaving it on the string, I would take the beads off. Then I added the feather and ribbon, and the streamer on top. I did choose the colors I choose because my grandma loves red and purple. The story behind the mask is that being a queen, she had to be brave, but even with the crown, she can’t. If I could start over, I would paint my mask all white with a silver strip and tears instead of white and gray but, I love the crown and embellishments on my mask. I think it made the entire mask.
Amelia House “Tropical Sun Dance”
9X12,” Oil Pastel, Watercolor Paint, Hot Glue on Paper, 2018
My idea came from my mom. She loves pineapple. I decided to do swirls instead of lines to add contrast to the lines in the background and a whimsical feeling that seems to emit from it. Each color represents a part of a dance, red being hip-hop, orange being the tango, blue being tap dance, pink being ballet, and brown being contemporary dance. These were chosen like this because my sisters are in dance I want to this to represent my family. The different shades of green represent my dad, who loves green. If I were to change anything ,I think I would like to make the yellow in the pineapple brighter and the background a little bit more colorful. Honestly, I personally love the entire picture, but I love the pineapple most, obviously.
Amelia House “Magi Castle”
12X18,” Graphite on Paper, 2018
When I was thinking of ideas, I wanted to do something different. I created my sketch and let my imagination do most of it. I had a hall with no windows, but paintings. Deciding what painting I wanted to do was hard, though. I choose the Starry Night, Sunflowers and Cypresses, all done by Vincent Van Gogh. I added a table and beams to make the hall look bigger. My inspiration for this drawing was my fascination with magic and mystery. I think I was able to draw a mystical feeling to it with shading. If I had a choice to start over, I would want to make the back wall stone and add a little less shading to some parts. My favorite part is the Starry Night and the table. I spent time on the table to get it the way I want, and the Starry Night picture looks really good.
Amelia House “Parrot”
6 ½ X 5 ¼ X ½,” Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2018
My design changed almost completely while making my face. I started with a very geometric shape face, but changed it to a parrot looking face. After changing it, I realized I was going to do a nature theme, so I added the leaf veins and the butterflies. The colors are very bright, but the small eye isn’t. The eye represents hate, while the colors represent happiness and love. I used organic and geometric shapes. The piece has meaning. It is nature. It it also darkness and hate. The face represents life. I would not like to change anything. I think it is perfect. I love the eye with the butterfly on it the best, though.
Amelia House “Fruit Bowl”
8” x 5 ½” Yarn and Thread, 2018
My weaving has 6 different fruit, from top to bottom, left to right, it is an orange, blueberry, lemon, watermelon, pineapple, and an apple. I added texture by adding studs and tassels. Each fruit represents my family. My mom is the pineapple (she loves them), my dad is the apple (to go with the pineapple. I am the watermelon (I just love watermelon), my 1st sister is the lemon (She is sassy and sour), my 2nd sister is a blueberry (she LOVES them), and my youngest sister is the orange (she is sweet and everyone loves them). I love the orange most because it looks so cute!
