Mia House “Merri”

8” x 10” x 11” Doll, acrylic paint, fabric, metal, sharpie, rope, feathers, beads, bows, hot glue, lace, chalk pastel

I like dolls, mostly for their looks and their hair. The artist that inspired my work was Marget Keane and her big eyes drawing. Her artwork called “Rosebud” was my favorite. A YouTuber inspired me as well, Dollightful. She works with dolls to give them a whole new look. She helped me with the process a little bit. My process was quite simple. First, I made her skin tone, making it slightly more grey than the original. I painted her face down to her shoulders and then I started working on her dress. I first made the skirt, then the top and the earrings and hair piece were added as an afterthought. I then did the eyes and styled the hair, cleaning the body of any extra paint. The biggest risk I took in this piece of work was the face. Once I made it, I couldn't go back. It turned out fine, and I think it looks good. I believe my favorite part of the work is the dress. It is so pretty at the top and simple at the bottom, and I spent the most time on the dress than anything else. There is one thing I would change if I were to do this again and that is the sleeves. With the way I made them, the arms do not bend, but I still think it turned out good.
