Mia House “Kitty Nature”

9” x 12” Paper, Chalk Pastel, Hot Glue, Metal, Yarn, Paint

I like cats. I like cats a lot. So, drawing a cat is natural. I then deiced that I need something to make it amazing. I made the cat based of the 4 elements, fire, earth, water, and air. During the process, I had no idea what my background was going to be. I was focused on what to make my cat. When the time came, I made what I thought would look good. The biggest challenge for me was the wash over. It took me 4 times till I got what I wanted. It was very difficult to make the blue dotty without messing it all up.

When it came to the background, I was not planning on the yarn. I wanted to make a background with swirls. But with the cat as the centerpiece, it was a must to have yarn. I really like the background, even though the swirls were drawn in as an afterthought. I would have liked to make the swirls a gold maybe, and the cat bigger so I could add more details. Other than that, I think it looks awesome.

Mia House “Words Hurt”

10x8, Photoshop

I am very passionate about my beliefs. I am a feminist and think that people don’t own women and should stop treating them like material objects. That was my inspiration. My entire thought process wasn’t very consistent. I first did the words, then the hair. As soon I finished that, I went on to the face. Then the duct tape and finally, the nose. I had 40 layers and wasn’t even aiming for 30. It seemed like I have a layer for every single pixel of shadow. Some challenges were how I was going to make the nose. I can’t draw noses for my life, so that it turned out this cool is amazing! I really like Photoshop and how I can create so many things with just my laptop. It seems so easy now that I know how to use it. I would change nothing about this picture, because if I didn’t like it, it would be kind of easy to change. But when creating this, my favorite parts are the ones hard to find. I put about 15 – 20 words hidden in plain sight, so finding them might be hard. If you do  find the words, bravo.

Volcanic Fabric

9 ¾”, 10,” 10”

My inspiration for my project was dress. I love how dresses flair and I wanted that look in pottery. I went through several design plans til I create one I liked. I then started building a vase that curved in at the top and then went out for the bodice. I liked the color Lava, which made the bottom of the dress matte, while the red at the top to compliment the matte. On the inside, it has Lava at the top and clear glaze to seal the vase. The biggest problem I had was what to do with the bottom. I’m still not happy with it, but it's okay. I would have liked it to be closed, but it was harder than I thought. Another thing I wish was better was how wide the dress was. I was hoping the dress would be skinnier, but, it still looks good. I like the color the most, even though the red and be seen through the Lava. I would changes just about everything. It would look better if it was skinnier, the glaze was put on better, if it was smoother, and if it looked like a dress and not a volcano.
